What We Believe
The Trinity
We believe in one God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 5:16, Matthew 45; Matthew 6:1, Matthew 4, Matthew 8-9; James 1:17; John 14:9; Genesis 1:2
God the Father
We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of all things visible and invisible.
Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24-28; Hebrews 11:3
God the Son
We believe in Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah, the only begotten Son of God, and the visible image of the invisible God. We believe that He became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man. We believe that He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross and by His physical resurrection from the dead. We believe that Jesus ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God.
John 1:1-2; Colossians 1:15;1 Peter 2:24; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24
God the Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, Who is active as God’s presence today and Who indwells every Christian.
John 16: 5-15;Acts 1:7-8; Romans 8:26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 6:19
ScriptureWe believe in the Bible, God’s Holy Word. We believe God inspired the original writings of the Scripture and because of that we accept the Bible as the final authority for all matters of faith and practice. |
|
Walking With ChristWe believe that responding to God’s grace is a life long journey, in other words we are continually surrendering more and more to what we are learning about Jesus. |
SalvationWe believe that salvation is a free gift from God given by grace and received through faith in Jesus Christ. |
|
Man’s ConditionWe believe the Bible teaches that man, created by God, willfully sinned against God and is consequently lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ. |
The Church
We believe the Church of Jesus Christ, the community of believers, serves as a witness to God’s “now” and “coming” kingdom. We believe this witness happens as the community is nurtured and as the community relates to the world in selfless acts of love, justice and service. At South Belt Church we say we are God’s people – Telling God’s Story – Building God’s kingdom.
Matthew 16: 13-18; Acts 2: 14-47; Acts 1: 8; Acts 2: 42-47
